if you don't like something, change it.
if you can't change it, change your attitude.

i was previously reading serene's blog and laughed at her bad luck for running into dimwitted customers. today, i found myself in the exact same scenario, leaving me hugely dumbfounded.
once again, Singaporeans really made themselves look cheap.
Upon dining at our respective restaurant, a family of four decides to call for their bill.
Son (who was in his late twenties with his parents) : "Hi, so what are the current existing promotions?"
Yours Truly :
"Waraku Special Promotions Include :
$10 Return Voucher for every nett $30 paid in single receipt using OCBC card;
10% off total bill in single receipt using HSBC card;
10% off total bill in single receipt using Waraku Member Card;
Newly signed up members enjoy a $50 voucher mailed to you along with your Member card, upon billing, either only card or voucher may be used.
All above promotions are strictly not applicable in terms for splitting of table bills, not applicable for use along with any other promotions, where only one mode of payment may be used."
Son A : "ouh okay, so i can pay by my OCBC card and get a $10 return voucher for my next visit? not bad."
Mother : "ouh, but which one is better? how about the HSBC one? which one is more worth it huh?"
Yours Truly : "well, your bill would be a total of sixty plus dollars, so receiving a $10 return voucher for your next visit would definitely be more worth it than..."
**interrupts**
Mother : "so which is better? HSBC or OCBC? can use both?"
Father : "I have the Waraku Member card. so maybe i can make payment along with the OCBC card?"
Yours Truly : "yes of course you may, but like i said, you may only choose one mode of discount to use because if.."
**interrupts AGAIN**
Son : "How about if i use this $50 voucher along with the membership card?? im sure i can get the 10% discount then."
Yours Truly : "Like i said, it is impossible for that as the promotions state that it is strictly not applicable for the combination of different promotions as.."
**interrupts once more**
Father : "Then you check for us first can? You check lah, check then maybe see how it goes."
**all this while, our dear "mother" was constantly repeating the words "so which combination is better? what do we use so it can get cheaper?" non-stop.**
I walked off irritated at how they just refused to listen to me, and asked my manager, for the sake of asking it, about whether or not the promotions could be combined.
Obviously, you should know the answer. so anyway, i returned to the god-damned customers.
Yours Truly (smiling so happily) : "Unfortunately, like what i SAID, this is not allowed. so sorry, but you would have to choose between using the voucher, or the member card if you want to be using them, and pay by an OCBC card or HSBC card but not get the promoted discounts and offers; OR you can pay by EITHER the OCBC card or the HSBC card but not use neither of the Waraku membership privileges."
Mother : "oh...so i can pay using the voucher and tender the rest of the bill using the OCBC card or HSBC card, no?"
i almost wanted to slap her. this is a strictly, jsut use your brain-and-think-based topic and i dont see why she cant understand a single bit of what i said. WORST OF ALL IS, THEY SPOKE FLUENT ENGLISH.
Their bill was sixty plus, how much promotions do they want to combine and use so that we wind up paying them instead?!
what do they think this is, playing Xbox where you go with the A-B-B-A-A-A-B-UP-DOWN-B combination to do a killer stunt?!
if both the parents never spoke, i think we could have proceeded with the bill more smoothly and less brain-cell-murdering. in this case, MY BRAIN CELLS.
